MEDIACENTER
The container itself comprised
a media center (audio center, video store and library) that was overseen by
staff members and open to the public. The daily presented filmprogramm meant an
additional impulse to the media center and was curated by Judith Wieser-Huber.
The musicprogramm was curated by Helge Hinteregger and Isis Hassan, the library
by Luitgard Eisenmeier.
PLATFORM
CAFE MELANGE was seen as a
platform for institutions, educational institutions, youth organisations and
artists. Forms used the opportunity to construct their usual kind of education
in a new way with using the media center. The front of the container, that was
reveted with colourful posters and verdicts, created by artists of writing
workshops, offered the pupils a interactive way to react on the verdicts by
writing their statements next to them.
A weekly happening DJ-Line
helped to inspire the dialogue between people of different heritage. Numerous
events were taking place against the background of these following three
topics, which were providing a framework for CAFÉ MELANGE: body (violence,
women's rights), language (heritage, learning, education) and living spaces
(habitation, culture, battered women's shelters).
HIGHLIGHTS
Screenings, shown on the Wallensteinplatz in cooperation with VOLXkino
((„Auf der anderen Seite" by Fatih Akin, 2007, and „Die Band von Nebenan -
Bikur hatizmoret" by Eran Koliran, 2007) and the reading called "Über-Setzung"
at the public library of Vienna were highlights of CAFÉ MELANGE. The reading
attended following authors: Seher Çakir, Vladimir Vertlib und Şerafettin Yildiz.
CLOSURE
At the end of the project, the media center was passed into the
ownership of the public library of Vienna. In the end of Janurary 2009 the
project CAFÉ MELANGE found closure throughout a multimedia-based presentation
by Luitgard Eisenmeier and Helge Hinteregger. The media center is now a fixed
part of the supplies of the public library.
