We ask artists:
What do we do to save ourselves, to save the world?
Bruce Naumann created a neon sign akin to the signs for luminous advertising for a pub:
"The True Artist Helps the World by Revealing Mystic Truths"
Artists, our heroes, exposed themselves to physical torments, undertook pilgrimages, planted trees, watered themselves with animal blood, splattered themselves with urine, wrote pamphlets, screamed, fought, starved.
Young filmmakers are portraying artists.

HILDEGARD ABSALON, tapestry artist
|
Director, Camera, Sound: Bernadette Weigel
Cut: Ewa Stern
Sound Design: Philip Zauner
Bernadette Weigel visits Hildegard Absalon. Absalon talks about the wear and tear of the body and the artistic occupation itself. She talks about her work which takes a lot of time, patience and often too much energy. In the course of the interview Absalon unwraps her loom which she had stored away years ago. On the loom there still is a yet unfinished gobelin. Hildegard Absalon sorts through threads - maybe she will be captivated by the loom once again.
Hildegard Absalon is an Austrian tapestry artist. She taught decorative design and decorative textiles at the University of Vienna. She is also a freelance gobelin weaver and has realized designs by artists like Maria Lassnig, Friedensreich Hundertwasser and Günter Brus among others. Since 1982 she has focused on realizing exclusively her own designs. Hildegard Absalon is a master of the detail in this now only seldom used technique. Her works are evidence of great wit and self-referential power.
